Today while on holiday I went for a snorkel finally. It was the one thing I wanted to do while I was here after I found out the place we were renting had snorkel gear.
I’m not a dedicated snorkeler but in January I went on a holiday to a tropical location that involved a lot of snorkeling because it was just the thing to do. I enjoyed it and decided I want to try to do it more back home when I had a chance.
Today’s snorkeling was not particularly successful or exotic. But it was fun because it was not well planned and I had no idea what to expect. I think sometimes adventures that are small can be just as meaningful and enjoyable as big planned ones. For example skydiving while I recommend doing it and its a pretty amazing experience, it is actually a very controlled environment, you rock up at location A at a set time, they teach you everything and then you jump out of a plane. While my snorkeling adventure today was much more spontaneous, I just walked to the beach and tried to find a spot. I had no idea what to look for or what could be in the water with me.
It turned out to not be an amazing location but I still had a lot of fun. It was cool to see seaweed that just looked like grass as I floated in water that was probably only a little deeper than I am thick. Maybe 40cm of water or so. I saw two fish. One tiny one (maybe 5cm) that let me just float over it slowly. The other larger but in the murky distance maybe 10-15 cm in size that just swam by. Like I mentioned the different kinds of seaweed were also fun to look at.
