Ok this starts what will hopefully rival Richard Herring’s longest running daily blog. Richard has a 25 year head start but hopefully I can catch him. https://www.richardherring.com/warmingup/ https://www.richardherring.com/warmingup/intro/
Let this day live in infamy as the day when the worlds worst writing begun. But I must admit I am at least a little bit excited for two main reasons. 1) I’ve always wanted to write stuff down for others to consume. But always been a little scared. I’m a weird kind of confident where if I have to do something or if I get assigned to do something that puts me center stage I’m normally confident to do it. But I suck at putting my hand up to do it or advocating for myself to be selected into a performance role. I find it hard to say “listen to me, I have something to say” and I guess that is something you have to be comfortable to do if you want to be a writer. 2) I’m actually enjoying it. This may be because I have set myself an incredibly low bar to achieve but it feels nice to get some of my internal dialogue on the page. Hopefully it helps get some of the thoughts that rattle around in my head at night stopping me from going to bed. I should note these are rarely anxious thoughts so no need to feel concern for me. These are more ideas about things I want to do or reflections on how my day went. I can just stare at a wall and get lost in my thoughts for what is hard to know but would approach an hour at a time.
I’ve also been kind of intimidated by the line when writers say “I don’t write because I want to, I write because I NEED to”. I never felt that way but I’m enjoying it so maybe wanting to do it is enough.
Anyway I should at least talk a little about my day. Today I went to a winery with my family and our dogs. I didn’t feel great. A little anxious and worried about my dog in particular. She had to have surgery recently and she can get stressed in new places and I pick up on it. But we got through it together and ended up having a pretty nice lunch. I also learnt a little about horseradish as my Dad really wanted to visit a horseradish farm. I learnt that horseradish is an actual vegetable and not just a sauce that a radish gets turned into. I also learnt one of a few possible explanations for the origin of its name. In German it is called Meerrettich which translates to sea radish, since it was originally grown near the sea. The English heard it as mare-radish, like an old horse and it eventually got changed to horse radish. Who knows if its true but its a plausible explanation.
First post done! Hopefully infinity more to come. Along with a nice script that updates it automatically to be new AI built website. So much fun to be had. Bye!!!
